Gemini CLI Will Stop Working Starting June 18, 2026

Google is ending consumer request handling for Gemini CLI and Gemini Code Assist IDE extensions, consolidating capabilities into Antigravity CLI, which is built for multi-agent workflows.

Timeline

• May 19, 2026: Antigravity CLI reaches general availability
• June 18, 2026: Request handling stops for Free, Google AI Pro, and Ultra users of Gemini CLI and IDE extensions
• The same change applies to Gemini Code Assist for GitHub, and new organization installations will not be possible starting June 18

What's Changing

• Antigravity CLI offers a new Go-based terminal experience and a server-side harness that orchestrates background tasks across multiple agents.
• There is no 1:1 feature parity with Gemini CLI initially, but Agent Skills, Hooks, Subagents, and Extensions remain core features.
• Extensions are provided in Antigravity in the form of plugins.

Scope of Impact

• General users and individual plan users will lose access to Gemini CLI, but Enterprise customers' access will be maintained.
• Organizations using Gemini Code Assist Standard/Enterprise licenses, or using Gemini Code Assist for GitHub through Google Cloud, will see no change in access.
• Gemini CLI can continue to be used with paid Gemini and Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform API key.

Transition Support

• Google will provide transition documentation and video guides in the future, and feature requests and feedback will be accepted through the Antigravity CLI community forum.
