Zed: Delta

Zed has launched the private beta of Delta, a multiplayer coding environment where AI agents and developers collaborate on writing, discussing, and reviewing code.

Delta connects the context of code and conversation, using its proprietary DeltaDB to replicate conversations and worktrees in real time. It works alongside existing Git repositories, allowing users to commit and push as usual, while appearing as a standard Git repository to teammates who do not use Delta.

Key features include:

• Real-time commenting on conversations, code, and worktrees, with comment positions maintained as code changes.
• AI agents explain or modify code while sharing the original conversation and decision-making context.
• Multiple participants use their own local code copies while syncing worktrees in real time.
• Continue running tasks on cloud runners and share threads via browser links without installation.
• Run Rust applications with WebAssembly and WebGL to provide the same experience in the browser.
• Starting with Claude Code, connect with external agent harnesses to sync terminal sessions to Delta threads in real time.

Delta focuses on quickly rendering full content rather than summarizing or hiding large diffs and long agent transcripts. It treats conversations like documents, allowing users to move the cursor to specific text and respond or comment directly at that point.
