Writing Your First Prompt with the GitHub Copilot App

To start a task in the GitHub Copilot app, you must first connect a GitHub repository or local folder to the session. Once the project is connected, Copilot examines the code and files to gather the context needed to perform the requested task.

Your first prompt does not need to be perfect; simply describe the desired changes in natural language. For example, if you request "Add an option to sort the game list by most funded," Copilot will locate the relevant code and begin the task. If the results differ from expectations, you can refine them with additional instructions.

You can also select the AI model to use depending on the task. Start with the default model, then switch to another if complex reasoning is required or the results are unsatisfactory.

In addition to text, voice input is supported. Voice input is converted to text in the prompt box, allowing you to review and edit the content before sending.

From the session title menu, you can select a different agent suited to the task type or enable remote control. Using a remote session allows you to continue tasks started on your local computer via the web or other devices.

It is recommended to start with small changes in a familiar project and adjust prompts, models, and session execution methods as needed.
