Anthropic Acquires Vercept to Strengthen Claude's Computer Use Capabilities

Anthropic announced it has acquired Vercept to further advance Claude's computer use capabilities. The Vercept team explained that they have long studied the problem of AI seeing and acting within software that humans use, and that this capability aligns closely with the core challenges Anthropic is trying to solve.

Vercept's external product will be discontinued within the next few weeks, and the team will join Anthropic. Through this move, Anthropic stated its goal of better handling complex tasks that span live applications—such as writing and running code, synthesizing research, and workflows that move across multiple tools and teams.

This acquisition also builds on the recently released Claude Sonnet 4.6's achievements. Anthropic stated that on the OSWorld benchmark, its Sonnet model's performance has risen from under 15% in late 2024 to 72.5% now, and that it is approaching human-level performance on tasks such as navigating complex spreadsheets and filling out web forms.

Following its earlier acquisition of Bun, Anthropic has now also brought on Vercept, and stated its intention to continue securing teams that share its technical direction and commitment to safety and rigor.
