Cloudflare Registrar API released in beta, register domains from anywhere

The Cloudflare Registrar API has been released in beta. Now domain Search, Check, and Register can be connected via API, allowing them to be handled directly within agents or automation flows.

The registration flow is designed to be simple.

• Search: Find candidate domains.
• Check: Verify real-time availability and pricing based on registry standards.
• Register: Proceed with registration using minimal requests; if it takes longer, a 202 Accepted is returned along with a pollable workflow URL.

In particular, Search results are cache-based and not for final decisions, so Check must be called again right before the final step to confirm pricing and availability. For premium domains, the exact registry price is returned, and explicit fee confirmation is required in the registration request.

Once registration is complete, WHOIS privacy is enabled by default at no additional cost. If the account has a default registrant contact, it is used automatically, and the default payment method is also applied automatically.

Since Cloudflare operates as the registrar itself, it offers the same at-cost pricing across the dashboard, API, and agent flows alike. Additionally, this API can be accessed directly via Cloudflare MCP, allowing it to be used without separate integration in MCP-compatible environments like Cursor or Claude Code.

The next steps are broader. While the current beta focuses on search, check, and register, plans call for expanding the API to include transfers, renewals, and contact updates as well. Building on this, Cloudflare is also aiming to launch a registrar-as-a-service for handling domain management programmatically overall, targeted for later this year.
