LangChain's Second Birthday

LangChain reflected on the changes in the LLM application development landscape to mark the second anniversary of the release of its Python package langchain. Moving away from its initial mission of 'connecting LLMs to external data and compute sources,' it now prioritizes building context-aware and agentic applications.

Two years ago, ChatGPT had not yet been released and there were only three LLM providers, but the ecosystem has since matured to support more than 70 model providers and more than 700 integrations. Accordingly, LangChain has expanded beyond a simple open-source library by adding two core products, LangGraph and LangSmith, focusing on ensuring stability and quality in enterprise production environments.
