Anthropic's Path Toward Profitability

Anthropic projects its Q2 revenue will reach $10.9 billion, more than double Q1's $4.8 billion. It also posted a profit of $559 million, marking its first quarterly profit since its founding, ahead of its planned IPO in October.

This growth is being driven by adoption of Claude's coding tools. In particular, Claude Code alone generated over $2.5 billion in revenue, with revenue growth outpacing Zoom's early-pandemic growth rate.

Profitability metrics are also improving. Compute cost per dollar of revenue fell from 71 cents in Q1 to 56 cents in Q2, indicating higher margins.

Meanwhile, reports emerged that the U.S. government is considering taking equity stakes in quantum computing companies such as IonQ, Rigetti, and D-Wave. This is seen as part of a broader trend of tech nationalization, aimed at managing core technology sectors at the national level, similar to the cases of Intel or MP Materials.
