Anthropic to Significantly Enhance Claude's Memory Feature with New 'Memory Files'

Anthropic is undertaking a major overhaul of how Claude remembers users. In addition to the existing single-summary option called 'Classic', a new 'Memory Files' approach is expected to be introduced, which divides information into structured documents organized by topic or project.

This approach utilizes file-system-based memory, similar to agent solutions like OpenClaw or Hermes. Through this, Claude will be able to maintain far more extensive and persistent user records beyond the limits of the context window, functioning much like a personal Wiki.

Alongside this, the memory-optimizing 'Dreams' feature is also drawing attention. Dreams asynchronously reviews accumulated memory files to remove duplicates, update outdated information, and resolve contradictions. This is similar to the process of organizing memories that occurs during human REM sleep.

Currently, Dreams is in limited beta testing targeting Opus 4.7 and Sonnet 4.6, and is likely to become the foundation for the upcoming Claude Conway agent.
