Anthropic Offers Free and Discounted Claude Subscriptions to 10,000 Scientists Worldwide

Anthropic has announced a significant expansion of its Claude Science product and AI for Science program to strengthen support for the scientific research community. This initiative will provide 10,000 scientists worldwide with free or discounted Claude subscriptions for one year.

Subscription Benefits for Scientists

• Premium Seat: $15 per month (5x usage limits)
• The company plans to expand the program beyond the initial 10,000 seats within the coming months.

Expansion of the AI for Science Program

Previously focused primarily on supporting researchers in the life sciences, the program now extends credits to researchers in other scientific fields requiring high computational resources, such as Riemann zeta function research and protein design. Researchers can apply for up to $50,000 in credits per project, and all researchers are eligible to apply.

Access Methods and Restrictions

Only Principal Investigators or those in equivalent positions at academic institutions or non-profit research organizations are eligible to register for team plans, allowing them to add lab members after verification. Currently, researchers in biology and chemistry are restricted to using Opus-class models. The Claude Fable model blocks queries related to professional biology and drug development due to dual-use risks, and Anthropic is collaborating with the U.S. government to establish an access program for Mythos-class models for life science experts.
