Anthropic Signs $45 Billion Cloud Infrastructure Deal with Nscale

Anthropic has signed a cloud contract worth approximately $45 billion with UK-based AI infrastructure company Nscale. According to CNBC, the deal involves Anthropic leasing approximately 460 megawatts (MW) of computing capacity from Nscale's data center in West Virginia.

The facility will utilize Nvidia's advanced Vera Rubin chips, with operations expected to begin in late 2027.

Background on Infrastructure Expansion

Earlier this year, Anthropic stated that increased demand for its Claude AI models and products had placed an "inevitable strain" on its infrastructure. This resulted in issues with reliability and performance for users during peak hours.

To address these challenges, Anthropic has focused on expanding its computing capacity over the past few months by signing multiple contracts with major infrastructure partners such as AMD, SpaceX, Google, and Broadcom.

IPO and Valuation

In June, Anthropic confidentially filed its IPO prospectus with the SEC and is holding preliminary meetings with potential investors. With the need to justify a corporate valuation of $965 billion, competition with rivals such as OpenAI and Google is intensifying, making its infrastructure strategy a key component of the company's roadmap toward Wall Street.
