2026 Election Information and Safeguards

Ahead of the 2026 global elections, OpenAI is building safeguards aimed at providing reliable information, supporting cyber infrastructure, and ensuring transparency of AI-generated content.

OpenAI helps users easily check voter registration, polling locations, and results. In the US and Brazil, it partners with AP to provide real-time vote counting updates, and works with Democracy Works to guide voting-related logistics information. It is also enhancing its web search feature to provide useful information along with source links.

To strengthen cybersecurity, OpenAI operates Daybreak, a software security initiative. Through Codex Security, it automatically identifies and fixes vulnerabilities in developers' code, and through the TAC (Trusted Access for Cyber) program, it provides verified experts with access to frontier models to enhance the resilience of election systems.

To counter misinformation such as deepfakes, OpenAI is introducing a multi-layered provenance verification approach that combines SynthID digital watermarking with the C2PA standard. Alongside this, it is unveiling a public verification tool that lets users check whether an image they encountered externally was created using OpenAI tools, enhancing content transparency.
