Chess.com's learning app Learn Chess with Dr. Wolf has introduced voice features to go beyond existing text-centered commentary and provide users with a more immersive learning experience. This is the result of reflecting feedback from young learners who struggled with reading text.

To achieve this, the team partnered with ElevenLabs and integrated the API to implement a voice that is authoritative yet warm, like an experienced chess coach. The team sampled various voices to select the optimal one that would not distract from learning while maintaining a personal bond.

Since the introduction of the voice feature, users have shown positive responses, saying that they can keep their eyes on the chessboard while listening to explanations, which has increased learning efficiency. With this update, Dr. Wolf is being recognized as having opened a new dimension in online chess learning, beyond being just a feature.
