Anthropic Announces New Initiative to Support Higher Education

Anthropic believes that how AI is introduced into education will shape how future generations learn and relate to technology, and announced two key initiatives to support this.

First, it formed a Higher Education Advisory Board to guide the educational use of Claude. The board is chaired by Rick Levin, former president of Yale University and a leader at Coursera, and includes academic leaders from major universities such as Rice, Michigan, Texas, and Stanford. They will advise on how AI can advance without undermining learning and critical thinking, while protecting academic integrity and student privacy.

Additionally, Anthropic unveiled three AI Fluency courses aimed at strengthening the practical AI skills of educators and students. These courses were co-developed with academic experts and are offered under a Creative Commons license so anyone can use them.

• AI Fluency for Educators: Covers practical ways for instructors to integrate AI into creating course materials, assessments, and discussions.
• AI Fluency for Students: Supports students in responsible AI collaboration and career planning while building critical thinking skills.
• Teaching AI Fluency: Provides pedagogical methods and a curriculum framework for educators looking to introduce AI literacy education on campus.
