Anthropic Signs Partnership with Allen Institute and Howard Hughes Medical Institute

Modern biological research is dealing with rapidly growing data scale, but the process of converting this into meaningful insight still faces bottlenecks that rely on manual work.

Anthropic has signed a partnership with the Allen Institute and Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) to close this gap. Through this collaboration, the plan is to extend Claude's capabilities to cutting-edge scientific research and build a foundation for scientists to actively use AI in planning and executing experiments.

The collaboration with HHMI is part of the AI@HHMI initiative and focuses on developing specialized AI agents for use within laboratories. These agents integrate with state-of-the-art scientific equipment and analysis pipelines to solve complex problems such as protein design or cognitive neural mechanisms, accelerating the pace of discovery.

With the Allen Institute, the collaboration will develop a multi-agent AI system for multimodal data analysis. This system supports scientific investigation in areas such as:

• Time-series dynamics modeling
• Experimental design

These systems aim to compress manual analysis that takes months into just hours, while also finding patterns that human researchers might miss.
