Anthropic Partners with University of Chicago's Becker Friedman Institute for AI Economics Research

Anthropic has partnered with the University of Chicago's Becker Friedman Institute (BFI) to conduct in-depth research into how AI is affecting the labor market and the broader economy. This collaboration is an extension of the Economic Index initiative, which tracks the economic effects of AI.

Anthropic will provide BFI faculty with access to Claude for Enterprise and support training and workshops on methodologies for applying AI to economic research. The two sides will combine BFI's economic expertise with Anthropic's research data to explore the following key topics:

• Productivity measurement: Investigating how AI adoption affects traditional productivity metrics across various industries
• Labor market transitions: Analyzing changes in occupational tasks and required skills as AI adoption increases
• Distributional impacts: Studying the benefits and challenges AI presents to different segments of society

Through this partnership, the goal is to clearly identify how AI usage is unevenly distributed across the economy and to provide policymakers and researchers with more sophisticated insights.
