Claude 3 Model Family

Anthropic announced the new Claude 3 model family. This lineup consists of three models—Claude 3 Haiku, Claude 3 Sonnet, and Claude 3 Opus—designed to offer the optimal balance of performance, speed, and cost.

Opus, the most intelligent model, achieved industry-leading performance on key benchmarks such as MMLU (undergraduate-level expertise), GPQA (graduate-level reasoning), and GSM8K (basic mathematics). All Claude 3 models show significantly improved capabilities in analysis, forecasting, code generation, and handling non-English languages.

Key features of each model are as follows:

• Claude 3 Haiku: The fastest and most cost-effective model, capable of processing complex research papers with charts and graphs in under 3 seconds.
• Claude 3 Sonnet: Offers 2x the speed of Claude 2, optimized for tasks requiring quick responses such as knowledge retrieval or sales automation.
• Claude 3 Opus: Delivers the highest level of intelligence, demonstrating near-human understanding and fluency on complex tasks.

In addition, Claude 3 features powerful Vision capabilities that can process photos, charts, graphs, and technical diagrams. Compared to previous models, contextual understanding has improved, significantly reducing unnecessary refusals for requests that do not violate system guardrails.

Opus and Sonnet are currently available in 159 countries via claude.ai and the Claude API, with Haiku to be released soon.
