Donation to Public First Action

AI provides enormous benefits across various fields such as science and the economy, but it also carries serious risks, such as automating cyberattacks or manufacturing dangerous weapons. In particular, as AI models evolve beyond simple chatbots into Agents that perform complex tasks, there is an urgent need for policy that keeps pace with the speed of technological advancement.

While AI technology is currently advancing rapidly, official guidelines or a federal-level framework to support it are lacking. While many resources flow to political organizations that hinder AI development, there is a lack of organized efforts that understand and drive AI governance.

In response, Anthropic is donating $20 million to Public First Action, a newly established bipartisan organization, to support AI governance and maintain US AI competitiveness. This decision goes beyond corporate interests, aiming to ensure that AI contributes to the public good.

Public First Action will pursue the following policy priorities:

• Establishing safeguards to ensure AI model transparency
• Supporting a federal AI governance framework that includes strong safeguards
• Supporting AI chip export controls to counter authoritarian states
• Advancing targeted regulation of high-risk areas such as biological weapons and cyberattacks
