Anthropic Signs Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with UK Government for AI Cooperation

Anthropic has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the UK Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT) to improve public services and innovate digital service delivery using Claude. The collaboration focuses on helping UK citizens more easily access government information and services, and on building best practices for the responsible deployment of frontier AI in the public sector.

Both sides plan to deepen their partnership in the following areas:

• Driving scientific progress by combining R&D and data strengths
• Securing advanced AI supply chains and the UK's future infrastructure
• Supporting startups, universities, and other organizations to energize the innovation economy

In addition, Anthropic's Economic Index will be used to analyze AI's impact on the labor market and economy, providing insights to help the UK adjust its workforce and innovation strategies for the AI era. The two sides will also work with the UK AI Security Institute to research AI capabilities and security risks and develop safeguards for safe deployment.

Currently, Claude is being used across a variety of public institutions, including:

• Washington, D.C. Department of Health: improving accessibility through a bilingual chatbot
• European Parliament: reducing document search and analysis time by 80%
• Palantir & AWS: supporting U.S. intelligence and defense operations
• Swindon Borough Council: providing tools to improve document readability for people with learning disabilities
