Usage Policy Update Announcement

Anthropic is renaming its existing 'Acceptable Use Policy' to the Usage Policy, with the new guidelines taking effect from June 6, 2024. This update focuses on clarifying the policy and ensuring responsible use of its products.

Key changes are as follows:

• Policy Simplification: 'Prohibited Uses' and 'Prohibited Business Uses' have been consolidated into Universal Usage Standards, applying the same criteria to both enterprises and consumers.
• Election Integrity and Disinformation Prevention: Political lobbying and campaign activities supporting specific candidates or parties are prohibited, and regulations to block election process interference and the spread of disinformation have been made more specific.
• Added High-Risk Use Case Requirements: For high-risk use cases that can significantly impact individuals, such as medical and legal guidance, organizations using the API must comply with additional safety measures.
• Expanded User Scope: Providing services for minors is now allowed, provided safety features are implemented and AI use is disclosed, and the scope of product use by law enforcement agencies has been expanded for certain purposes such as call center support.
• Strengthened Privacy Protection: The use of biometric data analysis to infer race or religion and the use of emotion recognition technology for interrogation purposes are explicitly prohibited, and use for content censorship on behalf of government agencies is also blocked.
