Shamez Hemani, formerly of OpenAI Stargate, joins Anthropic via Meta

Shamez Hemani, who worked for approximately 2 years and 6 months in OpenAI's Stargate computing and infrastructure team, has joined Anthropic as a Member of the Technical Staff. He is one of several senior data center employees who left OpenAI following its personnel restructuring in April.

Immediately after leaving, Hemani joined Meta's dedicated computing team alongside key Stargate figure Peter Hoeschele, but switched companies again after 5 months. The Meta computing unit was established in January, and CEO Mark Zuckerberg has promised to build computing capacity of tens of gigawatts, and eventually hundreds of gigawatts or more, in the long term.

Anthropic has recently been expanding its internal data center team and signing large-scale infrastructure contracts. Key contracts and current status are as follows:

• Cloud: $35 billion cloud contract with Lambda
• Compute: $45 billion computing capacity contract with Nscale
• Data Center: $19 billion, 20-year lease agreement with TeraWulf for a Kentucky data center
• Joint Venture: Established 'Theseus Infrastructure' with GIC and Macquarie for data center development
• Leasing: Negotiations underway to lease computing resources from Meta
