Brilliant Launches Personal AI Tutor Powered by ElevenLabs Technology

Conversational learning platform Brilliant has launched Koji, an AI tutor designed as a real-time learning assistant. Koji works through problems together with users, explaining concepts step by step based on what's on the screen to support learning.

For the core of the voice experience, Brilliant adopted ElevenLabs' technology. The focus was on going beyond simply delivering information mechanically, instead implementing a natural, friendly, and unhurried tone for the tutor's voice that can build trust with learners.

Koji's voice was created based on actual recordings from a Brilliant designer, and users can choose from among customized ElevenLabs voices based on the voices of Brilliant team members, allowing for a more personalized learning experience.

Brilliant's CCO Blake Farrow emphasized the importance of mathematical accuracy. Existing models may handle mathematical symbols well but still suffer from hallucination, such as misstating numbers aloud—Koji is focused on overcoming this to provide accurate voice guidance.
