Jamba-Instruct Released

AI21 released Jamba-Instruct, an aligned version of Jamba, in public preview on the AI21 Platform. It adds additional training, chat capabilities, and safety guardrails so that enterprises can apply it to production workflows right away.

Jamba-Instruct claims superior quality and cost efficiency compared to instruction-tuned competitor models of similar size. In particular, it offers a 256K context window, enabling long-context processing at the top level among comparable models, while cost optimization also improves accessibility.

With this context length, you can fit an entire 400-page novel or a company's full annual financial disclosure at once and perform Q&A and summarization on it. This makes it suitable for the following enterprise use cases:

• QA on earnings call transcripts
• Key summarization of legal documents
• Customer-facing chatbots that maintain long context

While the existing Jamba, as an open model, required separate fine-tuning to produce safe and accurate outputs, Jamba-Instruct comes pre-equipped with the safety, chat capability, and instruction understanding needed for commercial use. AI21 explained that this can significantly reduce enterprises' time to production.
