AI21 Studio and Jurassic-1 Unveiled

AI21 Labs has released its developer platform AI21 Studio in open beta, and introduced the Jurassic-1 family of language models available within it. The largest model, Jumbo, has 178B parameters, and was presented as one of the largest publicly available models for general developer use.

Jurassic-1 can be used not only for text generation but also for tasks such as question answering and text classification. Notably, it uses a vocabulary of 250,000 tokens, allowing text to be represented with fewer tokens, which the company says reduces computational cost and latency.

AI21 Studio lets developers test Jurassic-1 directly via API and on the web, and supports training custom models with as few as 50 to 100 training examples. Trained models are served exclusively within Studio, designed to scale beyond prototyping into production environments.
