Mythos Access Negotiations

The White House and Anthropic are discussing terms for using Mythos Preview within the federal government. OMB is reviewing whether each agency can use it, and reports say some agencies could receive access within weeks.

• Anthropic currently discloses Mythos to only a small number of companies and institutions to check cyber capabilities and strengthen defenses.
• These discussions are taking place while Anthropic is in litigation with the Pentagon. The Pentagon designated Anthropic as a supply chain risk and demanded that the software be removed from military-related workflows.
• While Anthropic's contract with the Pentagon is blocked, it can still do business with other government departments until the litigation concludes.

Demand is coming mainly from non-military departments. Agencies such as Energy and Treasury want model access to defend the power grid and financial systems, and intend to use it to assess vulnerabilities at companies and local governments.

Anthropic restricts use of the model for mass surveillance and development of fully autonomous weapons, and the Pentagon counters that these restrictions are too vague and that it needs assurance of use for "all lawful purposes." Some officials in the Trump administration are displeased with Anthropic, yet still view it as the top-tier tool for national security purposes.
