Google DeepMind Establishes 'DeepMind Institute' for AGI Era Research and Discussion

Google DeepMind has officially launched the DeepMind Institute (DMI) to address the technical and societal challenges of the Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) era. Shane Legg emphasized the need to deeply understand AGI's influence and promote safe development at this point when AGI is imminent.

DMI is a platform where internal researchers from Google DeepMind and the global research community collaborate to conduct and publish creative and in-depth research on key questions of the AGI era. The main topics of discussion are as follows:

• The impact of AGI on human values and identity
• Safe construction and governance of AGI systems and agent communities
• Social institutions and policies that need to adapt to or be redesigned for AGI

The institute aims to derive social consensus through broad intellectual discussions involving not only technical experts but also diverse fields such as humanities, arts, and government. The directors of DMI are Demis Hassabis, James Manyika, and Shane Legg.
