OpenAI Releases GPT-6 Sol and Luna via AI Gateway

OpenAI has released GPT-6 Sol and GPT-6 Luna via AI Gateway. Both models reflect improvements over GPT-6 in specialized tasks, coding, computer use, factuality, and communication, while offering lower pricing than GPT-6 Astra.

GPT-6 Sol is suited for complex professional workflows and sustained coding tasks where quality and headroom for iterative work are important. In contrast, GPT-6 Luna is designed as a low-cost option for high-volume agent workflows, coding, and everyday tasks.

Both models adopt a more direct communication style compared to GPT-5.6, reducing jargon and unnecessary details. Additionally, factual reliability has improved, decreasing misleading claims about completed work during coding tasks.

Users can use openai/gpt-6-sol and openai/gpt-6-luna in the AI SDK, OpenAI-compatible Chat Completions API, Responses API, and coding agents connected to AI Gateway. After installing the latest version of the Vercel CLI and connecting supported coding agents to AI Gateway, choose Sol for long tasks and Luna when throughput is the priority.
