Airbnb Expands Access to OpenAI Models, Including GPT-6 Astra

Airbnb has signed a new agreement with OpenAI, significantly expanding access to OpenAI's frontier models, including GPT-6 Astra, for its engineering and product development teams. This initiative builds on the existing experience with Codex and the GPT-5.6 series (Sol, Terra, Luna), broadening model usage via the OpenAI API and Amazon Bedrock.

Development Productivity and Non-Coding Efficiency

GPT-6 Astra has demonstrated strong performance beyond simple coding, excelling in complex bug tracking, system design, and brainstorming engineering approaches. Notably, in tests of non-coding tasks such as strategy document creation, tasks that previously required more than 20 iterations with other models were completed in just 3–4 attempts.

Ahmad Al-Dahle, Airbnb CTO, emphasized, "Our development team's feature release speed has increased by approximately 80% compared to a year ago, and OpenAI models are the core tools sustaining this momentum."

Deepening AI Integration Across the Platform

Airbnb is also applying OpenAI models across its platform, including search, fraud prevention, customer support, and insurance claim processing. This is part of a strategy to provide faster and more accurate experiences to millions of guests and hosts as the company integrates travel-related features such as accommodations, services, and airport pickups into a single app.
