Cloudflare Adds WebMCP Support and Terminal Mode to Kitesurf Agentic Browser

Cloudflare announced significant updates to Kitesurf, its agentic browser running on Cloudflare Workers. The update introduces native support for WebMCP (Model Context Protocol), allowing AI agents to interact with exposed tools on websites like Cloudflare Radar. Kitesurf's web standards compliance has improved, now passing over 730,000 Web Platform Tests (WPT) subtests, a 500,000-test increase since launch, with new support for CSS Layout, CSSOM, and Custom Elements.

Efficiency improvements include optimized JavaScript execution within the Wasm DOM, reducing overhead for common reads like getAttribute, and smarter font loading. These changes keep performance metrics in line with launch benchmarks despite the added complexity.

For developers, Kitesurf now offers full Browser Run API coverage, supporting CDP, Playwright, Puppeteer, and MCP. It also introduces a new terminal mode, enabling users to render web pages in the command line using the Kitty graphics protocol or ANSI text, facilitating agent debugging and lightweight browsing. Cloudflare plans to open-source Kitesurf in the near future.
