Cloudflare launches cf CLI to cover entire API for AI agents

Cloudflare has introduced cf, a new command-line interface designed specifically for AI agents to interact with the entire Cloudflare API. This launch addresses a gap in agent usage: while agents accounted for a significant portion of Wrangler usage, Wrangler only supports around 280 commands, whereas Cloudflare offers thousands. The new tool expands coverage to over 3,000 operations, enabling agents to manage everything from Workers to WAF and domains.

Agent-First Design and JSON Default

The cf CLI defaults to JSON output, recognizing that agents process structured data more efficiently than the human-readable tables used by Wrangler. This eliminates the need for agents to append --json flags or use jq filters, saving tokens and time. To help agents navigate the expanded command set, cf includes a natural language search feature (cf cli search) that maps user intent to specific API operations without bloating context windows.

TypeScript Configuration and Vite Integration

Configuration moves to cloudflare.config.ts, a TypeScript-based format that provides type safety and auto-completion for agents using LSP plugins like those in Claude Code and Codex. This shift allows for programmatic configuration of bindings and triggers. Additionally, Vite becomes the default development server, replacing custom Wrangler tooling. This integration offers hot module replacement (HMR) and leverages the Rolldown library for tree-shaking, aligning Cloudflare's development experience with the broader JavaScript ecosystem.

Migration Path and Support

Users can migrate existing projects using cf migrate. For Workers that rely on esbuild, Rust, or Python, cf will continue to delegate builds to Wrangler. Cloudflare plans to release a final major version of Wrangler after the open beta ends, directing users to cf, while providing maintenance support for Wrangler for 18 months post-beta.
