OpenAI Launches Dots: Always-On AI Agents Powered by GPT-6 Astra

OpenAI has launched dots, a new class of always-on AI agents powered by GPT-6 Astra. These agents operate on their own cloud computers, learn from user feedback, and connect to over 4,000 apps via plugins to execute tasks 24/7. Dots integrate with ChatGPT, Slack, and Teams, allowing users to interact via text or voice while maintaining context across channels. The agents are designed to handle complex workflows such as scoping bug fixes, revising launch materials, updating research analyses, and automating content production.

Safety features include isolated cloud environments, proactive research restricted to read-only tools, auto-review for actions, and Custom Rules for user control. Content from Business, Enterprise, and Edu workspaces is not used to improve models by default. OpenAI is also piloting specialist dots for organizations with distinct identities, which will integrate with Microsoft Agent 365 for governance. Dots are rolling out today to Pro and Business Premium users in eligible markets, with Enterprise users accessing the beta via admin enablement. The first dot is included in Pro and Business Premium plans at no extra cost, with conversations excluded from standard usage limits, though tasks in Codex or ChatGPT Work count toward limits.
