Google's offline AI dictation app

Google has launched Google AI Edge Eloquent, an offline-first AI dictation app, on iOS to compete with Wispr Flow, SuperWhisper, and others. The app downloads a Gemma-based automatic speech recognition (ASR) model to the device, allowing it to work even when offline.

Users can view real-time transcription, and when recording stops, the app automatically removes filler words like 'um,' 'ah' and smooths out sentences. Key features include:

• Text transformation: Adjust output with options like 'key summary,' 'formal tone,' 'shorten,' and 'lengthen'
• Cloud mode: Uses the Gemini model to perform more sophisticated text refinement
• Personalization: Import keywords and jargon from a Gmail account or add custom words
• History management: Save and search transcription session history, check words per minute (WPM)

Currently iOS-only, but the App Store description includes mentions of an Android version and system-wide default keyboard integration. Depending on the performance of this experimental app, transcription features for the Android environment are expected to be enhanced going forward.
