Talorys: Open-Source Personal AI Agent for Cloudflare Free Tier

Overview

Talorys is a free, open-source personal AI assistant designed to run entirely inside a user's Cloudflare account. It provides chat with streaming responses, persistent memory, task/note/project management, and scheduled automations (reminders, digests) without any server, database, or account operated by the developers. The project is single-user by design, with no signups or team features.

Architecture and Deployment

The system leverages Cloudflare's edge infrastructure to ensure privacy and low cost:

• Frontend: React app hosted on Cloudflare Pages.
• Backend: A private Cloudflare Worker (using Hono) that has no public URL, accessible only via service binding from the Pages Function.
• State & Logic: A Durable Object (personal-agent) backed by SQLite stores all data (conversations, memories, tasks, settings) and handles scheduling alarms.
• AI Model: Uses Workers AI with the @cf/zai-org/glm-4.7-flash model for chat and tool calling.

Deployment is handled via a single command: npx create-talorys@latest. The installer manages resource creation, secret storage (PBKDF2-SHA256 hashed password), and verification, ensuring no data is deleted during updates or re-runs.

Cost and Data Privacy

Talorys is built to fit the Cloudflare Workers Free plan:

• Free Services: Uses Pages, Workers, Durable Objects, and Workers AI (daily allocation). It does not provision paid services like R2, D1, KV, or Vectorize.
• Quota Handling: If the daily AI quota is exhausted, chat functionality pauses until reset, but non-AI features (tasks, notes, reminders) continue to work.
• Privacy: All data resides in the user's Cloudflare account. The project includes no telemetry, analytics, or tracking code. Cloudflare processes data only to provide its services (including AI inference).

Key Features

• Memory: Durable personal facts and preferences, with only relevant memories sent to the model per turn.
• Automations: Recurring reminders and daily digests run on Durable Object alarms, requiring no always-on server.
• Backup/Restore: Users can download a JSON backup of all data (excluding credentials) and import it transactionally.
• Local Development: Supports local dev with npm run dev, using a mock AI provider and deterministic state for testing without Cloudflare login.
