A Lost Voice, Recovered Through ElevenLabs Technology, Echoes Again at Windsor Castle

Irene Perrin, who worked as a teacher for 31 years, was diagnosed with Motor Neuron Disease in 2024 and lost her ability to speak.

She used ElevenLabs' technology to recreate her voice based on recordings from throughout her life. Unlike conventional Voice Banking, this approach has the distinction of being able to clone a voice using only existing recordings, even without separately recorded samples made before the disease progressed.

She now continues volunteering with her recreated voice, explaining history to visitors at St George's Chapel in Windsor Castle. When she types answers to questions into an app, the answers are output in her original voice.

Through its Impact Program, ElevenLabs provides this technology for free to those experiencing permanent voice loss, supporting AI's role as more than just a communication tool—helping it serve as a means of preserving personal identity and social connection.
