Anthropic Deploys Engineers to NSA to Deploy Mythos for Offensive Cyber Operations

Anthropic has deployed about 6 engineers to the U.S. National Security Agency (NSA) to utilize its most powerful cyber model, Mythos, for offensive cyber operations. These personnel serve as 'forward-deployed' staff, tasked with customizing Mythos—which has not been publicly released due to misuse risks—for national security purposes.

Mythos is capable of finding and exploiting zero-day vulnerabilities in major operating systems and web browsers. In recent tests, the model solved 73% of expert-level tasks and successfully completed a 32-step simulated attack on a corporate network.

This collaboration coincides with a lawsuit Anthropic has filed against the Department of Defense (Pentagon). Anthropic has demanded restrictions on the use of Claude for domestic surveillance and autonomous weapons, and in response, the Department of Defense designated Anthropic a 'supply-chain risk.'

To prevent misuse, Anthropic is limiting access to Mythos to about 50 key U.S. partner companies through its Project Glasswing program.
