Kakao Hosts 'Krew Day', a Tech Exchange Event with Over 1,000 Crews from 12 Group Companies

On September 25, 2025, Kakao held Krew Day, the first event for exchanging technical resources and insights among group companies, as part of if(kakao)25. Approximately 1,000 crew members from Kakao and 12 group companies participated in this event, which was planned with the concept of Sync & Play to facilitate honest internal technical discussions and growth, unlike previous events focused on external publicity.

Sync Track: Technology Sharing and Networking

The event featured 33 demo booths prepared by 11 group companies, sharing highly polished technical ideas. In particular, the Ping & Talk session provided an in-depth discussion on the actual use cases and limitations of AI coding tools.

• AI Tool Utilization: Tools such as V0, Copilot, and Gemini CLI were used to generate frontend drafts, automate SQL queries, and refactor code.
• Real-world Challenges: Key issues included the lack of data standardization, rising token costs (with a case of $300 per day), and the need for quality verification of AI-generated code.
• Verification Strategies: Strategies for improving efficiency were shared, such as cross-verifying with multiple models like Claude, ChatGPT, and Gemini, or providing team coding convention files to the AI.

Play Track: Experience and Competition

Programs were also arranged for crews to directly participate and enjoy. Kardenbell was a CS and AI quiz competition conducted via a mobile platform developed with vibe coding. 1K: Vibe Coding Battle was a mini-hackathon where participants completed an MVP within 1 hour (40 minutes of pure development) using v0 and ChatGPT, experimenting with the potential of collaboration with AI tools.

CTO and Expert Panel Talk

CTOs from 7 group companies, including Kakao, KakaoBank, and Kakao Mobility, participated to discuss technical leadership and changes in development culture in the AI era. Additionally, Brad, Head of Google Search Engineering, and Lablup CEO Shin Jung-gyu participated, providing global perspectives on the AI Native future. In the partner lounge, services from global technology partners such as AMD, AWS, Google, and Nvidia were showcased, allowing attendees to experience external technology trends.
