Kakao Developer Shares Experience as Presentation PM for First External Talk at KCC2024

A Kakao developer reflected on their experience giving their first external presentation at KCC2024 (Korea Computer Congress) and serving as the Presentation PM. Four people, organized into two teams of two, delivered two presentations, with the author taking on the role of preparation PM within the organization.

Challenges in the Preparation Process

The author initially estimated that one to one and a half months would be sufficient for preparation, but this was a significant miscalculation. Actual preparation required far more time and effort than anticipated. The team aimed to start in early to mid-May but postponed to late May due to high-priority development tasks, and materials and content were not finalized until one week before the presentation, causing disruptions to other work.

On-Site Presentation and Feedback

The presentation venue at the Jeju International Convention Center was packed with attendees. Thanks to multiple practice sessions, the author completed the presentation without nervousness, but noted shortcomings in eye contact and pronunciation due to not fully memorizing the script. During the Q&A session, the inability to provide detailed answers due to confidential information was cited as a limitation.

Future Improvements

The retrospective concluded that participating in external presentations was positive for organizing work content and acquiring new information. However, to prevent work disruptions caused by insufficient preparation time, the team decided to finalize details before deciding to participate and start the preparation schedule earlier for future presentations.
