Kakao Reveals Development Journey of Map- and Voice-Based Anti-Abuse CAPTCHA 'DKAPTCHA'

Kakao shared the development process and technical considerations behind its self-developed DKAPTCHA at the 3rd Kakao Tech Meet. This CAPTCHA incorporates strategies to prevent abuse by leveraging map images and voice recognition.

Presenters Sally.han and Hailey.me noted that while most developers understand the concept of CAPTCHA, they may not be well-versed in the technical details and user experience (UX) considerations required for actual service implementation. In particular, since DKAPTCHA is being developed based on Kakao's proprietary data and has not yet been deployed in production, the presentation aimed to gather diverse perspectives and further refine the service through feedback from external developers.

The presenters emphasized that as abuse techniques evolve rapidly, blocking services must also continuously advance. Going forward, DKAPTCHA plans to improve the system by striking a balance between enhanced security and user convenience.
