OpenChain Korea Work Group Holds 18th Regular Meeting… Shares ISO Standard and Copilot Lawsuit Updates

The OpenChain Korea Work Group (KWG) held its 18th regular meeting on June 22 at Kakao Pangyo Agit. Approximately 50 open source representatives from 20 companies and institutions attended the meeting to share open source compliance management know-how and the latest issues.

Key Session Highlights

In the presentation sessions, Shane Coughlan from the Linux Foundation announced that the ISO/IEC DIS 18974 open source security standard is expected to be registered as an ISO standard soon. Additionally, Park Jung-sook, a researcher at ETRI, shared the progress of the Copilot class action lawsuit, which has arisen due to the increasing use of AI tools by developers. This lawsuit stems from allegations that AI models learn and generate code without complying with open source license obligations.

From a technical management perspective, LG Electronics introduced the security vulnerability management features added to FOSSLight Hub, and Jung Yun-hwan, a researcher at Samsung Electronics, announced the future plans for the OSORI project, which is being jointly conducted by LG Electronics, Samsung Electronics, and Kakao. OSORI is a project that publishes open source information data to help anyone easily check compliance requirements.

Group Discussion and Significance

Attendees held group discussions on topics such as ISO certification acquisition cases, security vulnerability responses, and license issues arising from AI model application. OpenChain KWG is a domestic working group operating under the Linux Foundation to share open source management know-how among companies and raise compliance levels within the software supply chain.
