Kakao Shares Recommendation System and ML Engineering Technologies at KSC2022

Kakao participated as a sponsor in the Korea Software Congress (KSC2022) held at Ramada Plaza Jeju Hotel from December 20 to 23, conducting technology exchange events. This event featured invited talks, the Kakao Tech Workshop, and technology and recruitment booths.

Recommendation Systems and ML Engineering

In the invited talk, Kim Seong-jin, an engineer from Kakao's recommendation team, presented on the topic of 'Machine Learning Engineer Travel Guide'. He introduced the value created by ML engineers in the field and provided growth directions for students preparing for related roles.

The Kakao Tech Workshop covered the following topics:

• Relevant V.S. Diversity in Recommendation Goal: Choi Gyu-min, an engineer from the recommendation team, analyzed the trade-offs between users, content creators, and the platform, and shared three cases quantitatively comparing short-term satisfaction (Relevant) and long-term satisfaction (Diversity).
• Retrospective on ML SaaS Platform Development: Bae Jun-yang, an engineer from the recommendation team, reflected on the technical challenges and insights encountered during the development of the beta version of the MLaaS platform.
• Explanation of Kakao Recommendation Team Recruitment Problems: Lee Hyun-seong, an engineer from the recommendation team, revealed the machine learning programming test problems used during recruitment and their explanations.

Infrastructure and Booth Operations

Kim Yeon-woo, an engineer from the cloud platform team, presented on 'Kakao's Object Storage Structure for Large-Scale File Processing', introducing techniques to resolve bottlenecks occurring during directory traversal via RangeScan in distributed environments.

Development leaders and engineers from the recommendation and cloud platform teams participated at the event venue, engaging in in-depth Q&A sessions with developers regarding technology and recruitment. Kakao plans to continue sponsoring developer communities and sharing technology in the future.
