Kakao Common Platform Development Team: Development and Operation of Common Modules for Business Platforms

Kakao's Common Platform Development Team develops and operates common elements across business platforms such as Gift, Order, and Channel, including account systems, billing and settlement, and review tools. Beyond simply providing APIs, the team aims for a complete service environment and evolution into SaaS, with some modules already undergoing SaaS development work.

The tech stack primarily uses Java, Spring, and Kotlin on the server side, with MySQL as the default data store, supplemented by MongoDB, Hive, and ES. The frontend is developed as an SPA based on JavaScript, React, and TypeScript, using Redux and MobX for state management. CI/CD is operated on Kakao's infrastructure team's virtualized environment via Kubernetes, Docker, and Jenkins.

The work structure consists of 2 cells and a direct FE organization, adopting Scrum to conduct 2-week sprints, daily scrums, and retrospectives. The team has established a retrospective culture that analyzes root causes and establishes recurrence prevention measures when incidents occur. Members emphasize a healthy development culture, including free sharing of opinions, thorough code reviews, and respect for new hires' opinions, while providing standardized common platform development experience and opportunities for seminars and studies for personal growth.
