Kakao Shares KakaoTV Backend MSA and Kubernetes Adoption Journey at Internal Seminar

The 5th session of Kakao's internal technical seminar, Techtalk, was organized to share the experiences and know-how of crew members who participated in the KakaoTV backend overhaul. The main presentations covered the process of migrating Redis clusters from physical servers to Kubernetes, as well as a case study of a pragmatic DevOps system built in just one month for the MSA transition.

Crew member Hoo Yun-haeng from the Video Development Team shared the trial-and-error and troubleshooting experiences encountered while moving a Redis cluster that worked well on physical servers (PM) to Kubernetes virtual servers (VM). The presentation focused on technical know-how to ensure both performance and efficiency, receiving a warm response with a significantly extended Q&A session due to high interest from developers on the ground.

Crew member Lee Sun-jin introduced an MSA-based DevOps system prepared in just one month for the launch of the KakaoTV Original service. Covering the entire backend refactoring process, including k8s cluster setup, CI/CD system configuration, and infrastructure service management, the presentation outlined the principles and Best Practices for maintaining the system stably with minimal operational resources. By sharing know-how on the general research and selection processes faced by teams preparing for new projects or MSA transitions, the talk resonated with internal developers.
