Latest AI news announced in March

Throughout March, Google expanded AI across search, productivity, maps, devices, health, music, and developer tools. Search Live expanded AI Mode to over 200 countries and regions, and Canvas in AI Mode became available to English-language users across the US.

Gemini in Docs, Sheets, Slides, Drive opened more powerful file, email, and web-based productivity features to AI Ultra and Pro subscribers, and Sheets achieved a new level of performance. Google Maps added Ask Maps, which answers complex questions conversationally, and Immersive Navigation, which combines real-world imagery with natural-language guidance.

Personalization features were also strengthened. Personal Intelligence expanded to AI Mode in Search, Gemini in Chrome, and the Gemini app, connecting with Google apps like Gmail and Photos to deliver more personalized results. For users moving over from other AI apps, memory and chat history import features were also introduced.

On the device side, the March Pixel Drop added image-based style breakdown for Circle to Search, recommendation surfacing via Magic Cue, Now Playing music history, and Express Pay and phone-locking features for Pixel Watch. Google Translate's Live translate with headphones expanded to iOS as well, with supported languages growing to over 70.

In health, The Check Up 2026 unveiled a $10 million support plan for redesigning medical education and rural healthcare partnerships, and Fitbit expanded the Public Preview of its personal health coach, added medical record integration, and strengthened period, mental health, nutrition, and hydration tracking. In the creative space, Lyria 3 Pro supported music generation up to 3 minutes long with detailed section control, and a developer Public Preview was opened via the Gemini API and Google AI Studio.

Top-tier models and the developer experience were also upgraded. Gemini 3.1 Flash-Lite was introduced as the fastest, most cost-efficient model, while Gemini 3.1 Flash Live was introduced as a conversational audio model. Google AI Studio added a new vibe coding experience and the Google Antigravity coding agent, making it possible to build production-ready apps from prompts alone and connect them to databases and external services.

Finally, looking back on 10 years of AlphaGo, it was reemphasized as a catalyst for AI to solve complex problems and open up scientific breakthroughs. This trajectory ultimately led to AlphaFold and the solving of the protein folding problem.
