Cloudflare's Continued Commitment to Privacy for the 1.1.1.1 Public DNS Resolver

Cloudflare announced that, to mark the 8th anniversary of the launch of the 1.1.1.1 public DNS resolver, it once again underwent independent verification by the same Big 4 accounting firm. The audit collected evidence from late 2024 onward, and as a result confirmed that the existing privacy commitments continue to be upheld.

The core guarantees remain unchanged. The company does not sell or share public resolver users' personal information with third parties, and does not use it for ad targeting either. It also only retains and uses what is requested, keeps no information that could identify the requester, and anonymizes the source IP address before deleting it within 25 hours.

However, two points were transparently explained. Random packets amounting to up to 0.05% of total traffic are sampled for network troubleshooting and attack mitigation, and the scope of this audit is limited solely to the privacy commitments. The way past log data is utilized has expanded to services such as Cloudflare Radar, but the company emphasized that this does not affect personally identifiable information or user privacy. It also reaffirmed its existing Privacy Policy commitment not to use 1.1.1.1's DNS query information in ways that combine it with other Cloudflare or third-party data to identify individual users.
