PanicLock - A utility that disables Touch ID and requires password-only unlock when you close the MacBook lid

A macOS menu bar utility that locks the screen and temporarily disables Touch ID via a menu click, keyboard shortcut, or simply closing the MacBook lid, forcing password entry.

Since macOS has no built-in way to instantly turn off Touch ID, this tool fills that security gap, letting you switch to a password-only unlock state without logging out or shutting down the system.

Once you unlock with a password, your existing Touch ID settings are automatically restored. The default shortcut is ⌃⌥⌘L.

With the Lock on Close option enabled, closing the lid immediately disables Touch ID and locks the screen, and that state persists until you log back in with your password.

Under the hood, it uses an SMJobBless privileged helper, bioutil, and pmset to change the Touch ID timeout value and lock the screen. An administrator password is required on first launch.

There is no network activity, telemetry, or data collection, it's open source, and its scope of operation is clearly defined in line with the principle of least privilege.

The caveats are clearly stated as well.

• This tool only disables Touch ID.
• If Apple Watch unlock, a security key, or any other unlock method is enabled, you can still unlock the device using that method.
