OpenAI Weighs Leasing 10GW Ohio Data Center Campus Backed by Nvidia

OpenAI is engaged in deep discussions to lease a 10GW (gigawatt)-scale data center campus set to be built in southern Ohio, USA. The project is expected to cost at least $500 billion (approximately 670 trillion KRW), including chips, power, and construction costs.

Under the deal structure, OpenAI would control the computing equipment through a 20-year lease agreement, with payments beginning at the first phase's launch in 2028. Notably, Nvidia is expected to take on a role beyond just supplying hardware, also guaranteeing OpenAI's lease obligations and the developer's financing.

This collaborative model goes beyond a simple supplier-customer relationship, illustrating a new type of strategic partnership in which model developers, chip suppliers, and energy providers join forces to secure AI infrastructure.
