Banksalad Upgrades Design System with 'Product Language' Shared Across All Job Functions

Definition and Structure of Product Language

Banksalad went beyond the existing Design System to build Product Language (BPL), a common language used by all members involved in product creation. This system compares components to 'words,' screens to 'sentences,' and development guides to 'spelling rules,' enhancing consistency in communication and production within the organization.

Establishing Ground Rules Based on Figma

The BPL project, which began with a service overhaul in early 2020, switched tools from Sketch to Figma, achieving real-time collaboration and reduced misunderstandings. To manage hundreds of components, the team established Ground Rules classifying them into Container, Element, and Child, and applied a Naming Rule including unique numbers and categories to prevent confusion.

Data-Driven Component Evolution and Results

After adopting BPL, the component reuse rate rose from 74% to 85% starting in the second half of 2020, while the number of newly created components decreased. As a result, designers saved more than 8 hours per month on average. In addition, through pairing work between squads and the BPL team, as well as A/B testing, components continue to evolve based on data.
