OpenAI Announces GPT-5.5: "A New Dimension of Intelligence for Real-World Work"

OpenAI announced GPT-5.5, positioning enhanced agentic capabilities as the core change.

• Improved ability to independently plan and execute complex, multi-step tasks in coding, computer use, knowledge work, and early-stage scientific research.
• Aims for higher intelligence and reduced token usage while maintaining the same per-token latency as GPT-5.4.
• Benchmark results presented include Terminal-Bench 2.0 82.7% and SWE-Bench Pro 58.6%.
• Currently rolling out to ChatGPT Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise users and Codex users, with API access coming soon.

OpenAI stated that GPT-5.5 will go beyond simple text generation to become a core part of agentic AI infrastructure that understands user intent faster and carries tasks through to completion.
