OpenAI Codex Record & Replay: Show a Task Once to Turn It into a Reusable Skill

Record & Replay, a feature that lets users demonstrate their own workflow on macOS and convert it into a reusable Skill, has been unveiled. This feature is optimized for automating repetitive tasks or processes that are complex to describe through prompts.

Key Features and How It Works:

• Workflow Capture: When a user performs a specific task (e.g., expense processing, downloading reports, creating issues, etc.), Codex observes the screen content and actions to learn the pattern.
• Skill Creation: Once recording ends, Codex drafts a skill that includes the workflow's purpose, required inputs, execution steps, and how to verify the result.
• Replay: When new inputs (files, date ranges, etc.) are provided to the created skill, Codex completes the task using Computer Use, browser actions, plugins, and more.

Usage Tips:

• When recording, it's best to choose a workflow with stable steps and clear success criteria.
• Personal information or sensitive data should be excluded during recording, and recording should be stopped as soon as the task is complete to prevent unnecessary data collection.
• More complex workflows, or those that need to be deployed across a team, can be packaged as a separate Plugin.
