Working with files in ChatGPT

Uploading a file to ChatGPT lets you analyze, edit, summarize, and generate content right within the conversation. The key point is that you can handle spreadsheets, documents, PDFs, and even images without ever leaving the chat.

The usage is simple.

• Open a new chat in ChatGPT.
• Select "Add photos or files" from the tools menu to upload a file.
• Supported formats include CSV, XLSX, PDF, DOCX, JPEG, PNG, TXT, and more.

After uploading, just give your instructions in natural language. For example, you can summarize the key points of a report, visualize monthly sales data by region, rewrite a document more concisely, or extract key dates and owners from a PDF into a table. You can also request the results in the form of a table or chart, or download them as an updated spreadsheet or PDF.

In some versions of ChatGPT, you can also connect to external tools through apps. Once you connect via Apps in settings, the app appears in the chat tools, and in Enterprise environments, admins control which apps are available.

• Apps are connected through authentication and authorization.
• You can select them from Tools during a chat, or invoke them with @ or /.
• In Enterprise/Business workspaces, data accessed through apps is not used for model training by default.
