Warp has now gone open source

Warp has open-sourced its client source under AGPL, and starting from github.com/warpdotdev/warp, it has begun accepting community contributions. The community can participate in the Oz-based agent-first workflow, and with this transition, support for Kimi, MiniMax, Qwen has also been added.

On the feature side, a new auto (open) model routing, expanded customization, and a settings file that is portable across devices have been added. Users can choose anywhere from a simple terminal mode, to a lightweight configuration with just diff view and file tree, to a full ADE with a built-in agent.

The operating approach is also shifting to an open format.

• Public GitHub issues are used as the standard for feature tracking
• CONTRIBUTING.md guides the contribution process
• Core work such as coding, planning, and testing is handled by agents, while the community participates in ideas and validation
• ADE roadmap and technical/product discussions also proceed publicly

Warp stated that the development bottleneck has shifted from writing code to human-in-the-loop work such as establishing and verifying specifications, and that it will improve the product faster through the open-source transition. OpenAI has joined as a founding sponsor of the new repository, and while contributions can also be made through other coding agents, the default workflow is designed around OpenAI models and Oz.
